Hosta – Gold StandardThe Hosta ‘Gold Standard’, Hosta fortunei, has heart-shaped large broad leaves with creamy yellow and variable dark green margins. The pinkish, lavender flowers bloom from July to August, however, Hosta’s are not known only for their flowers. With a plant height of 24″ and a spread of 36-48″, Hosta’s provide bright color in shade with wonderful foliage. Hosta ‘Gold Standard’ needs to be planted in a full shade area in any moist, well-drained area. Hosta ‘Gold Standard’ was an American Hosta Society multiple winner, and one can see why. This low care perennial is ideal for shady positions, tubs and patio pots, and one of the most popular for landscape uses. A great choice for any beginner gardener.

Veronica – Goodness Grows SpeedwellThe Veronica ‘Goodness Grows’, Veronica spicata, or also known as Speedwell, is an easy to grow perennial that adds beauty to any garden. ‘Goodness Grows’ is the longest blooming Veronica in its family. This upright perennial produces wonderful violet-blue flowers from June till September. With its dark glossy green foliage, it has a plant height of 12″ and a spread of 12-18″ ‘Goodness Grows’ needs a full sun area with well-drained soil. Deadhead the flowers after the first bloom to prolong its bloom time. Veronica can be used as a ground cover, in mass plantings or along borders. Try ‘Goodness Grows’ with Hemerocallis ‘Stella de Oro’ or Veronica ‘White Icicles’. Veronica is great for the first time gardener plus it is deer resistant.

Peony – Bowl of CreamThe Bowl of Cream Peony, Paeonia ‘Bowl of Cream’, blooms in midseason with large, bowl-shaped blossoms of pure white that have hidden golden stamens. The flower width can be as large as 8″ wide. The beautiful dark green foliage really makes the flowers stand out. Double. Developed by Klehm Nursery. APS Gold Medal winner 1981. All of our peonies are widely adaptable to most soils across the country. They bloom in mid to late spring and have very large, colorful blooms that stand out in the spring garden. Peonies can handle dry to moist sites, and do best in full sun but can handle some light shade. Often thought of as a plant used on the farm or out in the country, they bring a little bit of that country feeling to your garden. It is not uncommon to see peonies planted along the driveway or lane in a mass. Southerners should seek out our early bloomers and provide afternoon shade.

Daylily – El DesperadoThe Daylily El Desperado, Hemerocallis ‘El Desperado’ (Stamile, ‘91), has large yellow flowers with a purple eye above a green throat with green foliage. El Desperado will bloom early in the season and then repeat bloom late in the season. It can survive harsh conditions that many other plants can not and prefers full sun for the best performance.Daylilies are some of the easiest plants to grow and are a good choice for any gardener. The will grow in almost any soil and handle drought to wet soil conditions. Use for stand alone plantings, edging, in borders or in mixed containers and tubs.

Canna – PretoriaThe Canna Pretoria, ‘Canna’, also known as a novelty Canna or Bengal Tiger, has bold orange flowers with yellow and green striped variegated foliage. ‘Pretoria’ is a prolific grower and medium in size. It has a plant height of 3-4′ and a plant spread of 24-36″ It will bloom from July to October. ‘Pretoria’ should be planted in full sun and in a well drained area. Oxeye – Loraine SunshineThe Heliopsis Loraine Sunshine, ‘Heliopsis helianthiodes’, a Blooms of Bressingham plant, is a great combination of large, golden-yellow flowers and variegated foliage with green veins. Blooming from July till frost, this Heliopsis grows to 30″‘ tall with a plant spread of 30″ This easy to grow perennial attracts butterflies and is deer resistant. ‘Loraine Sunshine’ needs to be grown in full sun, but can tolerate some afternoon shade. It can be planted in average, well-drained soil, but do not allow it to dry out. A wonderful addition to island beds or in the back or borders or as cut flowers. ‘Loraine Sunshine’ may be slow to appear in the spring, but the blooms persist long after other perennials have completed their show. Rose Campion – Gardener’s WorldThe Lychnis Gardener’s World, ‘Lychniscoronaria’, a Blooms of Bressingham plant, is an upright perennial with woolly silver foliage. The magenta-red double blooms resemble small carnations. ‘Gardener’s World’ is a definite improvement from other Lychnis. The flower is larger, sterile and more refined. ‘Gardner’s World’ has a plant height of 24-36″ and 10″ spread. The beautiful blooms last from from June to August. ‘Gardener’s World’ should be planted in full sun to light shade, but does require moisture and free-draining soil. Lychnis is deer resistant and a great perennial for mass plantings or at the back of a border.

Lily – StargazerThe Oriental Lily Stargazer, ‘Lilum ‘Stargazer’, has extremely large pink flowers with white edges and spots of red that are fragrant, producing 4-5 flowers per stem. The dark green foliage makes a great contrast with its flower color. ‘Stargazer’ has a plant height of 36″ and is one of the most popular Lily’s on the market today. Cutting the pollen off the middle of the flower, not letting it touch the flower, will increase the bloom time on Lily’s. Blooming in mid to late June, ‘Stargazer’ should be planted in full sun and in a well drained soil. Proven to be resistant to rots and virus, it should not be left out of the perennial garden.
